The OCC Charitable Trust is Fully OperationalThe Ocean Cruising Club Charitable Trust is registered with the Charity Commission for England & Wales. It was set up in 2020 primarily to promote the following aims:
Trustee David Ball explains, “For years, members of the OCC who share a bond with distance sailors and have a deep appreciation for the Club and its members, have asked to donate to the Club to support charitable ventures that promote life at sea. To provide a transparent means for members to contribute, we have taken steps to formalise the process and enable charitable giving. With your support we hope to be able to achieve our aims and any gift you are able to make will be most gratefully received.” Sailing to a Better FutureThe OCC Charitable Trust was approved by the Charity Commission for England and Wales in 2020 and is a registered charity (Registered Number 1191825). Although affiliated with the Ocean Cruising Club, it is wholly independently operated. The overall management of the Trust is overseen by Trustees recommended by the Ocean Cruising Club, with day-to-day operations undertaken by members of the Executive. Most of the management of the Trust is done on a voluntary basis. The general purposes of the OCC Charitable Trust are to advance sail training, seamanship, cruising, and navigation to improve safety at sea. In addition, the charity will help provide sustainable facilities and resources for young and disadvantaged persons through sailing instruction and opportunities; with an emphasis on areas where facilities and opportunities are less developed. Furthermore, the goal is to promote for the public benefit the conservation, protection and improvement of the natural environment, including promoting biological diversity. Donations or GiftsAs a registered charity, members and non-members alike can make donations to the OCC charity during their lifetimes or as a part of their estate planning. These donations may create a potential tax savings depending on each donor's individual tax situation. If you are a UK taxpayer, where possible, please use Gift Aid. Donating through Gift Aid means the charity can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give. It will not cost you any extra. Applying for a grantThe OCC Charitable Trust will consider applications that satisfy any of the four criteria mentioned above. Include in your submission the project’s objective, timeline, budget, and logistics and submit via email to admin@occtrust.org. Applications can be submitted any time, but the grant program has limited funds available annually, so applicants are encouraged to submit applications as early as possible. A grant recipient may be called upon to provide deliverables such as occasional reports, photography/video, slideshows, articles, media, or participate in OCC-led lectures and community outreach.
