IGY Marinas to Launch its 3rd Annual Inspire Giving through You Philanthropic Initiative on February 10th, 2018

Make a Difference | Inspire Giving through You Community Outreach | IGY MARINAS

IGY Marinas will host its third annual philanthropic initiative, Inspire Giving through You, on Saturday, February 10, 2018 in the communities where IGY Marinas operate in North America, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

The first of two global community outreach events this year, Inspire Giving through You calls upon IGY Marinas’ corporate staff, marina associates, Anchor Club Strategic Partners, yacht owners, captains and crew members to spend the day volunteering and celebrate their efforts with a variety of festivities afterwards. Volunteers at most locations are also provided with breakfast and lunch.

“When we launched this initiative, we had no idea that it would receive such tremendous support from hundreds of volunteers and now, in its third year, the momentum is expected to continue” said Tom Mukamal, CEO of IGY Marinas. “While volunteering benefits the destinations where we live, work, and travel throughout the year, it’s more important than ever, especially in the areas affected by last year’s hurricanes, to support the communities and help continue the efforts to rebuild.”

The 2018 Inspire Giving through You community outreach events will benefit the following charitable organizations:

St. Thomas – Ivanna Eudora Kean High School enhances the education of its students with a curriculum that develops positive self-image, consideration of others, and provides opportunities for the students to improve their skillset throughout many engaging programs, including maritime studies. Volunteers from Yacht Haven Grande Marina and American Yacht Harbor will come together to help clean up and repair classrooms damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

St. Maarten

Since 2000, the Nature Foundation and Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (EPIC) has been working throughout the West Indies to further the scientific understanding of the issues faced by the Caribbean ecosystem, educate the public about conservation, and promote public involvement in ecological restoration and protection. Volunteers from Yacht Club at Isle de Sol and Simpson Bay Marina will work together to assist in clean-up of Simpson Bay Lagoon and Beach in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria, and will celebrate their efforts with a party afterward at Fat Turtle.

St. Lucia

Greening the Caribbean is focused on keeping waste recyclables out of Caribbean landfills. Rodney Bay Marina and its group of volunteers, along with a local community youth group, will focus on cleaning up a 5 kilometer (3 mile) stretch of Rodney Bay Beach celebrating with a beach party at the ending point.

Miami/Fort Lauderdale

Habitat for Humanity of Broward builds houses in partnership with families who are willing to work hard to provide their children with a stable home environment and hope for the future. Volunteers from IGY Marina's Fort Lauderdale Corporate Office, One Island Park Marina, and IGY Anchor Club Strategic Partners will work alongside the home’s future owners to make decent, affordable housing a reality for them.

St. Petersburg, Fl.

Tampa Bay Watch strives to preserve the delicate ecological balance that exists in Tampa Bay through a variety of habitat restoration and protection activities to help the bay recover from its environmental problems. The volunteer team from Maximo Marina will partner with volunteers from Tampa Bay Watch, Eckard College, and the University of South Florida to clean up the southside of the Skyway Bridge and the accompanying park for the enjoyment of the community. Additionally, they will provide support to educate the community about the environmental impacts through the recycling and shore clean-up project.

Escuela de Colima is an educational institution in west central Mexico that focuses on social responsibility and human development. The volunteer team at Marina Cabo San Lucas will work to clean up and repair the interior and exterior of the school as well as install outdoor activities and safety equipment.

The Marina Santa Marta in Colombia is still reviewing a few opportunities and is excited to be participating again this year, and the Golfito Marina Village in Costa Rica will be participating in the June edition of the outreach program with Red Frog Beach Island Marina.

The “Inspire Giving through You” summer outreach projects are scheduled for Saturday, June 9, 2018. IGY will announce more details on participating marina locations and nonprofit organizations in the coming months.
