Presidential Transition Team releases U.S. Coast Guard Overview

Posted by LT Sarah Janaro, Friday, November 4, 2016AVEDAY1

“The peaceful transition of power has long been a hallmark of American democracy. It is the policy of the United States to undertake all reasonable efforts to ensure that Presidential Transitions are well-coordinated and effective…” – Executive Order – Facilitation of a Presidential Transition

On Jan. 20, 2017, a new administration will take office. Joining departments and agencies across the federal government, the Department of Homeland Security is making preparations to ensure continuity of operations and a seamless transition for the new administration. The Coast Guard has also joined this effort by creating a Presidential Transition Team.

The Coast Guard’s Presidential Transition Team directly supports the department’s Presidential Transition Office through thorough planning, preparation and collaboration across the service and within the department. All transition teams’ responsibilities span a broad spectrum; however, one primary task is to ensure the new administration understands information regarding an organization.

Telling the Coast Guard’s story and how we bring value to the Nation is part of ensuring a seamless transition to the next administration. For example, the Coast Guard is the principle Federal agency responsible for maritime safety, security, and environmental stewardship in U.S. ports and waterways. In this capacity, the Coast Guard protects and defends more than 10,000 miles of U.S. coastline and inland waterways, and safeguards an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) encompassing 4.5 million square miles stretching from North of the Arctic Circle to South of the equator, from Puerto Rico to Guam – the largest EEZ in the world.
