Perfect for coastal cruisers and club racers the new Vulcan 9 feature-rich touchscreen sailing chartplotter includes radar, sonar and Wifi connectivity

B&G®, the world’s leading sailing navigation and instrument specialist, is pleased to introduce the new Vulcan 9 sailing chartplotter – a large touchscreen chartplotter for coastal cruising and club racing sailboats, that provides sailors with incredible value.

The new 9-inch chartplotter delivers innovative sailing functionality controlled through a bright intuitive multi-touch screen and easy to use menu structure that makes setting courses, reading wind speed[1] and direction, depth[2], bearings and a host of other sailing functions, simple and intuitive to access and understand.

With award-winning sailing features that make it easy to plan a trip with key information, the Vulcan 9 includes SailSteer™ and Sailing Time, that combine essential data into one clear and informative screen, as well as SailSteer chart overlay which further enhances situational awareness of laylines and windshifts. Sailors can also unlock a host of other features including True Wind and tide, making Vulcan a fantastic central navigation display. In addition, for the club racer the Vulcan 9 features Startline, countdown timer, and the ability to plot a course. Also with the addition of SonicHub™ marine audio, V50 DSC VHF Radio and AIS transponder/receivers, Vulcan 9 provides the ultimate in on-water entertainment, safety and communication.

The Vulcan 9 also has the capability to help protect a craft both above and below the waterline. With the introduction of B&G Broadband 3G™ or 4G™ Radar connectivity to the series, Vulcan users can identify and track targets from up to 36 nautical miles away, to the bow of the boat, cruise safely through crowded harbors, show very close obstacles in poor visibility and keep an eye on distant storm cells. The chartplotter can be connected to B&G’s ForwardScan® transducer to enable full forward-looking sonar to see beneath the surface, especially useful when sailing in shallow unfamiliar coastal waters and coming into harbors. When connected to a B&G Pilot system the Vulcan 9 can act as a secondary autopilot controller providing Intelligent Sail Steering, manual and auto steering functions, and Smart Maneuver functionality combined with intuitive menus for ultimate control.

“The new addition to the Vulcan family brings high-tech sailing features to our entry level range of chartplotters and really shows how B&G is ensuring everyday sailors have access to the best technology previously only afforded to the top racing yachts,” said Leif Ottosson, CEO of Navico, parent company to B&G. “From its high-speed GPS, SailSteer, ForwardScan sonar, to the addition of Broadband Radar, every part of the new Vulcan 9 has been designed to meet the needs of sailors of all levels.”

The Vulcan 9 features built-in Wi-Fi allowing connections to the internet, via a marina or smartphone hotspot and giving access to the GoFree™ Shop[3] to be able to download charts and software updates direct to the display. Users can also mirror the screen of the Vulcan 9 and control the chartplotter (tablet only) on a compatible IOS or Android smartphone or tablet by downloading the GoFree app and linking to the chartplotter from virtually anywhere on the boat.

The Vulcan 9 chartplotters will be available in December, starting from with an MSRP of $1,049. To find out more about the B&G passion for sailing and the award-winning range of sailing electronics and navigational products, visit www.bandg.com.
