Coast Guard Foundation President Anne Brengle to Retire

Tenure to End December 31, 2016

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of Coast Guard members and their families, announced that President Anne Brengle will retire at the end of the year after nine years of service to the organization.

“I am tremendously proud of the work we have done in the last nine years and for the opportunity to support the Coast Guard, its service members and their families,” said Brengle. “I will be forever appreciative of the experiences and the people I’ve met who have inspired me with their bravery, commitment and dedication to our great Nation. I’m a lifelong sailor and I know first-hand the value of the Coast Guard and their commitment to service. I will continue to be a strong supporter of the outstanding people who wear the uniform with pride. Above all, I am looking forward to spending time with my granddaughter and family, traveling with my husband and, hopefully, spending some quality time on the water.”

Under Brengle’s leadership, the Foundation:

Strengthened lines of communication and collaboration with other Coast Guard-serving organizations, including the Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association, Coast Guard Museum Association and the Coast Guard Auxiliary Association.

Expanded the mission of the Coast Guard Foundation to support Coast Guard families when tragedies occur, including providing comfort to families as they cope with unexpected loss and critical injuries, and support to Coast Guard members and units through memorial services and lasting tributes to the fallen.

Collaborated with the Alumni Association and Coast Guard Academy Parents Association to build eight state-of-the-art sail training platforms to establish the Leadership 44 program, giving all cadets at the Academy the opportunity to participate in real, on-the-water experiences and hands-on leadership training.

Led development of a community center for Coast Guard families stationed in remote Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, providing them with a place to meet, exercise and hold community events and activities in a safe, supportive environment.

Diversified and strengthened the Foundation’s reach to include recreational boaters and sailors, maritime companies and patriotic Americans who value the Coast Guard and its service to our country.

“Anne’s leadership has helped the Foundation continue to grow and strengthen its support for the men and women of the United States Coast Guard and their families, and for that we are grateful,” said Will Jenkins, board chairman, Coast Guard Foundation. “She has much to be proud of and we will continue building on her many successes as we plan for the future. We thank her for her many contributions over the years and we wish her and her husband, George, a very happy and healthful retirement.”

An ad-hoc board has been established to lead the search and selection process for a suitable replacement. To ensure a seamless transition, the committee expects to have a new president in position this fall in advance of the Annual Trustees’ meeting in November.
