Ireland’s Top Sailors to Compete in National Championships This Weekend

The All-Ireland Sailing Championships will take place in Dublin Bay this weekend coming, the 3/4 October. The event is hosted this year by the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire. The annual regatta sees last year's champion Anthony O’Leary (Royal Cork Yacht Club) return to defend his title – see attached photo. The All Ireland Championship (also known as the Helmsman Championship) has been going since 1958, and sees sailors from across the country compete in this unique Irish sailing event.

The Irish Sailing Association (ISA) received nominations this month from sailing classes in Ireland for their top sailor to fight it out to become the All Ireland champion. For a list of all sailors who qualified, please see: All Irelands notice on

As competitors come from different class types, the racing feature one type of boat, the J80, which is intended to even-up the field for a fair contest amongst some of Ireland’s finest sailors. Racing takes place on Saturday and Sunday. The regatta will consist of two qualifying series on Saturday, followed by a final on Sunday to decide who will be crowned champion of Ireland. For more on this, please see the Notice of Race

Follow the racing and stay tuned for updates on the ISA's Facebook page and website,
